Director of Media Relations American Principles Project is seeking a Director of Media Relations with at least 5 years communications experience with a think tank, Capitol Hill, non-profit or newsroom.Responsibilities: · Develop and execute a communications strategy, including grassroots communications, earned media outreach, and paid media campaigns; · Write news releases, statements, media alerts, editorial memoranda, oped pieces, speeches or remarks and other materials; · Write talking points, questions-and-answers, and other message materials. · Aggressively work to place content (e.g., op-eds, interviews) in national, state and local media outlets; · Pitch media and handle media queries on APP issues; · Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications · 5+ years experience in communications with a think tank, Capitol Hill office, non-profit or newsroom; · Established media contacts; · Proven record of media placement; · Strong writing and editing skills; · Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, newsletters, and fact sheets; · Strong oral and written communications skills; · Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal skills; · Ability to effectively multi-task in fast-paced environment; · Experience working under tight deadlines. Communications AssistantThe APP Communications Assistant works in managing online media (articles, blogs, etc.) on the APP website and social media networks, as well as oversees the integration of communication software with new contacts identified through any of APP's online or event activities. Responsibilities: 1. Managing APP email lists and software 2. Proof-reading APP submissions and approaching new contributors 3. Contributing to the APP blog/assisting other contributors 4. Monitoring and updating APP facebook and twitter networks 5. Monitoring news and blog feeds for stories that intersect with APP's mission and projects Background: 1. Bachelor's degree 2. Experience in blogging and using social networks professionally and/or politically 3. Experience in managing communications software (email blast software, etc) Skills: 1. Excellent communication, phone, and written skills 2. Versatility and experience in internet social media/web 2.0 applications 3.
